Are batteries included?

No, betteries are not included... we have quite a few different ones here : Rechargeable Batteries

What sort of distance can i get with a Hand Held CB Radio?

Unfortunately the range of the handhelds using their own aerial is very limited.

If you can connect them to an external aerial then they will work as well as a conventional CB but on their own short aerial you are looking at a range of approximately :

0.5 - 1 miles handheld to handheld
1 - 2 miles handheld to vehicle
1 - 3 miles handheld to base (with big base aerial)

Can i use a handheld inside a vehicle on it's own aerial?

You can, be range will be very limited, down to 50-100 yards/metres as the laws of physics and the "Faraday Cage" effect mean that outside signals won't want to enter the metal box that is your vehicle, and signals inside (from the handheld) won't want to leave!

The solution is to connect the unit to an external antenna on the roof of the vehicle, this is made very easy with the Midland 42 and the Intek H520 as they are supplied with in-car kits.
