I used to have an EM-27, it went wrong and started screaming at me... is this going to happen again?
No, this problem has been sorted now.
Early models of this radio (circa 1997-1999) had a backup battery inside, some of which leaked and damaged the PCB, the symptom of this was a very loud screeching sound.
This has now been changed for a capacitor to provide memory backup and these don't leak.

What are the F and P1, P2 P3 buttons on the microphone for?
On the EM-27 you can programme these buttons with some of the (many) functions of this radio.
The F button acts as a toggle for the other buttons, so you can actually program the mic to perform up to 6 functions, in addition to the up and down channel change, and Press To Talk.

The BEEP function (shown on display in pics)... is this a roger beep?
No, this is a beep to indicate that a button has been pushed, it can be turned on or off.
Most people will probably turn this off as it can get annoying after a while if you use the functions a lot or change channels a lot.
It can be handy for those that don't change channel (at all?) as a beep would indicate that a button has been pushed, so might warn the user to check that they are still on the correct channel, or that some other function hasn't been activated accidentally.
A roger beep is a beep sound thats actually transmitted at the end of every transmission, virtually no CB's have this function nowadays.

What are the 27.781 numbers showing in the display in the photos?
This is the frequency readout, and is actually 27.78125, the frequency of channel 19 on the UK band.
Most CB's just show the channel, some can show either channel OR frequency but the EM-27 shows both!

Can the Maycom EM-27 be used abroad?
This model is an 80 channel unit, so it's legal for use in the UK only, and (as is required by the 80channel CB conformity rules) has "For Use In The UK Only" written on it. It does have the EU band though, which is the band thats common throughout Europe.

Can the LCD display colour be changed?
