Using UK CB's Abroad

All the CB sets we sell are legal to own and use in the UK.

However, all the sets apart from the Midland 78+ Multi and the Midland 48+ Multi are not supposed to be used outside of the UK, and have "For Use In The UK Only" written on them somewhere.

The chances of getting "caught" are very slim, and being prosecuted even less, but if you are planning on taking your vehicle abroad it's deffinately worth getting one of the above mentioned sets. Not only are these legal to use throughout Europe, but they also give you access to many countries "local" channels (like our UK band) which makes sense to have when travelling abroad, so you can contact local CB users for help if necessary.

Some countries (namely Morocco and some other African countries) do not like vehicles equipped with CB coming entering, and it's ALWAYS an idea to remove and conceal the set and aerial at these borders. Bizarrely enough, CB's are often openly sold in markets (the previously confiscated ones?) once you are in the country, and using never seems to be a problem - it's just at the borders where you have to careful.

CB Licences

At the time of writing, we still need a CB licence - it costs £15 a year for those over 21 and under 75. (Under 21's and over 75's are free.)

There was a proposal put forward to deregulate CB radio and remove the need for a licence but this has not been moved forward any further. We have further information on this here (You can also download a licence application form on this page.)

The PMR446 walkie talkie units on this site are "Licence Free" so there is no problem here.

The PMR446 units are also allowed in the majority of European countries.
