Our Euro CB EC-990 Echo Chamber is a great bit of kit - it's just for fun but can really make your voice stand out from others and using one enables you to have a couple of different roger beeps which can be handy as these tend to heard for miles more where your voice just wouldn't be intelligible.

Here's our Youtube Demonstration of the EC-990 Echo Chamber (applicable to all versions)
For the first 5 minutes i talk about the different versions we sell - giving lots of info about them & which version you should choose, along with some useful general info about these Echo Chambers, so please watch from start to finish at least once, but after that if you want to go straight to the sound demo, go about 5 minutes in and you'll be there! ... enjoy!

I originally made this video for eBay where we also sell these (at a slightly higher price than on this site), so please excuse the "ask seller a question" references etc!

For people who have a CB that has a 4 pin microphone socket on the front of it, the choice is pretty straighforward, theres only two versions and these cover 99% of 4 pin wired CB's from 1981 (when CB was made legal) right up to present day. These are the Uniden/Cobra and the Cybernet versions, and we give a list of what CB's are wired that way in the description of each one, so if you have a 4 pin CB you don't need to read this page any further, just head over to those two now and see which one has your CB in the list!

However, if you have a CB with a 6 pin microphone socket on (most modern CB's do) then things can get a bit confusing.

It's no problem though, as we have put together some "Guaranteed Compatible" versions which most of the time involves us rewiring the output wire (the one that plugs into the CB) so it works with the CB's it's designed to work with.

Because these rewired chambers started off as 4 pin units, the socket on the front needs a 4 pin microphone to plug into it.

We do versions of each different rewire that come with a new heavy duty mic, and ones that you can use a microphone you might already have (i.e. from an old CB) with.

Most people opt for the new mic as well as the chamber as the mic does not have the annoying up/down channel change buttons that manufacturers seem so fond of but which can be a nightmare for accidental channel changes, and in most cases these mics are also stronger and more substantial than the mic originally supplied with the CB so it's a win-win situation!

IF YOU CAN'T BE BOTHERED WITH ALL THE COMPLICATIONS AND TECHNICALITIES, HERE ARE OUR GUARANTEED TO WORK RECCOMENDATIONS :

  • If you have a 6 pin wired Midland, Alan, Albrecht, Team, Maycom, Danita, Lafayette, Maas, Kernow, Maxon (CM70), Magnum or Moonraker CB Radio - you need THIS VERSION which comes with the heavy duty mic, or THIS VERSION if you already have a spare mic you could use.
  • If you have an Intek CB, model : M-490, M-495, M-760, M-790, M-795, M-799 Or a President CB, model : Harry 3, Johnson 2, Walker, Herbert, Jackson - you need THIS VERSION which comes with the heavy duty mic.
  • If you have a TTi TCB-560, TCB-660, TCB-770, TCB-771, TCB-880, TCB-881, TCB-1100 or TCB-R2000 CB Radio - you need THIS VERSION which comes with the heavy duty mic, or THIS VERSION if you already have a spare mic you could use.
  • If you have a President Harry II ASC, President Truman ASC or President Teddy ASC - you need THIS VERSION
  • If you have a Ranger RCI-2950, RCI-2970, RCI-2950DX, RCI-2970DX, RCI-2985DX or RCI-2995DX CB Radio - you need THIS VERSION which comes with the heavy duty mic, or THIS VERSION if you already have a spare mic you could use.

BELOW IS A QUICK RUNDOWN AND EXPLANATION OF THE COMPLICATIONS OF GETTING THE FACTORY WIRED 6 PIN VERSION OF THIS ECHO CHAMBER WORKING ON ALL 6 PIN CB'S
YOU DON'T NEED TO READ THIS, IT'S HERE FOR THOSE THAT ARE "UP" ON THE TECHNICALITIES OF THESE SORT OF THINGS AND ARE CURIOUS WHY!

MOST "STANDARD WIRED" 6 PIN CB RADIOS (BUT NOT ALL) HAVE A +12V OUTPUT ON THE MIDDLE (6TH) PIN... THIS MODEL OF EC-990 USES THIS POWER SUPPLY TO POWER ITSELF. HOWEVER... TO MAKE SURE THAT THE RADIO IS NOT OVERLOADED, THE MIDDLE PIN ON THE FRONT OF THIS ECHO CHAMBER DOES NOT CARRY THIS POWER SUPPLY, SO IF THE CB HAS A MIC WITH UP & DOWN CHANNEL CHANGE BUTTONS OR OTHER BUTTONS ON IT, THE CHANCES ARE THAT THE MIC RELIES ON THAT POWER SUPPLY TO WORK CORRECTLY, SO CONNECTING UP THIS MODEL OF EC-990 AND USING WITH THE ORIGINAL MICROPHONE WILL MEAN THAT THE ECHO CHAMBER WILL POWER UP BUT THERE WILL BE NO SOUND AS THE MIC IS NOT RECEIVING THE POWER IT NEEDS TO WORK!

ALL 6 PIN PRESIDENT CB RADIOS DO HAVE THIS POWER SUPPLY PRESENT, AND THERE ARE 3 CB'S OF THEIRS THAT WERE SUPPLIED WITH A MICROPHONE WITHOUT UP/DOWN BUTTONS SO THIS MODEL OF EC-990 WILL WORK WITH THE ORIGINAL "NON-BUTTONED" MIC... THESE ARE THE HARRY II ASC, TRUMAN ASC AND THEIR BUDGET CB, THE TEDDY ASC.

ALL 6 PIN INTEK RADIOS DO HAVE THIS POWER SUPPLY PRESENT, BUT THEY ALL HAVE "BUTTONED MICS" SO WILL TRANSMIT SILENCE IF USED WITH THE ORIGINAL MICROPHONE. WE HAVE ANOTHER PRODUCT ON THIS SITE HERE : COMING SOON WHICH IS THIS 6 PIN MODEL OF ECHO CHAMBER SUPPLIED WITH A SUITABLE NON-BUTTONED MICROPHONE (AT A SLIGHTLY REDUCED COMBINED PRICE) WHICH WILL WORK FINE WITH THE 6 PIN INTEK CB'S. (INCIDENTALLY, THE INTEK M-60, M-100 PLUS, M-110, M-130, M-150 AND M-899 ARE 4 PIN TO START WITH SO YOU CAN JUST USE OUR STANDARD UNIDEN 4 PIN EC-990 ALONG WITH THE STANDARD INTEK 4 PIN MIC!)

IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A DYNAMIC (NON BUTTONED) 6 PIN MIC, YOU CAN PURCHASE THIS MODEL OF EC-990 AND USE IT WITH YOUR MIC ON INTEK RADIOS.

THE REAL COMPLICATION COMES WHEN WE START LOOKING AT MIDLAND/ALAN/ALBRECHT CB'S... I HAVE TRIED TO GET A DIFINATIVE LIST FROM MIDLAND OF WHICH MODELS CARRY THE 12V OUTPUT AND WHICH DON'T BUT IT SEEMS THERE HAVE BEEN MANY CHANGES OVER THE YEARS AND THE ONLY GUARANTEED WAY TO GET AN EC-990 ECHO CHAMBER WORKING ON A 6 PIN MIDLAND/ALAN/ALBRECHT CB IS TO PURCHASE ONE OF OUR MODIFIED VERSIONS WHICH ARE ACTUALLY 4 PIN EC-990'S WITH THE OUTPUT CABLE (THAT CONNECTS TO THE CB) REWIRED (BY US) WITH A STANDARD 6 PIN PLUG. YOU CAN THEN USE THESE WITH A NON-BUTTONED 4 PIN MICROPHONE. THE TWO PRODUCTS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE ARE JUST THE ECHO CHAMBER ITSELF (WITH MODIFIED OUTPUT LEAD) SO IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A 4 PIN MIC YOU CAN USE YOU CAN PURCHASE THAT, AND THE ECHO CHAMBER WITH 4 PIN MIC WHICH YOU SHOULD CHOOSE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SPARE MIC YOU CAN USE. AGAIN, THIS IS OFFERED AT A SLIGHTLY DISCOUNTED COMBINED PRICE.

IF YOU DO ALREADY HAVE A 4 PIN MIC AND OPT FOR THE ECHO CHAMBER ON IT'S OWN, WE'LL NEED YOU TO TELL US WHAT CB YOUR 4 PIN MIC WAS ORIGINALLY FROM SO WE SEND YOU AN ECHO CHAMBER WITH THE CORRECTLY WIRED SOCKET ON THE FRONT AS THERE ARE SEEVRAL CONFIGURATIONS OF 4 PIN MIC.

IF YOU LOOK AT THE YOUTUBE VIDEO ABOVE, THIS IS HOW WE HAVE DONE IT OURSELVES... AN EC-990 WITH 4 PIN SOCKET ON THE FRONT WITH RE-WIRED 6 PIN OUTPUT LEAD... THIS IS SHOWN BEING USED WITH A TEAM 6 PIN CB AND IN OUR OPINION THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO USE ONE OF THESE ECHO CHAMBERS WITH ANY 6 PIN CB RADIO.

THERE ARE TWO EXCLUSIONS TO THIS :

TTI 6 PIN CB RADIOS... THESE HAVE A NON-STANDARD 6 PIN WIRING AND YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO USE OUR "TTI" VERSIONS OF EC-990. AS WITH THE OTHER MODIFIED MODELS OF EC-990 WE OFFER THIS AS JUST THE ECHO CHAMBER ITSELF, AND A VERSION WITH A BRAND NEW 4 PIN MIC WHICH YOU SHOULD CHOOSE IF YOU DON'T HAVE A SPARE 4 PIN MIC HANGING AROUND. (INCIDENTALLY, THE TTI-550 IS 4 PIN TO START WITH SO YOU CAN JUST USE OUR STANDARD UNIDEN 4 PIN EC-990 ALONG WITH THE STANDARD TTI 4 PIN MIC!)

RANGER/TEXAS RANGER 6 PIN CB RADIOS... THESE (LIKE THE TTI CB'S) HAVE A NON-STANDARD 6 PIN WIRING (ALTHOUGH IT'S DIFFERENT AGAIN AND IS UNIQUE TO RANGERS) AND YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO USE OUR "RANGER" VERSIONS OF EC-990 HERE (COMING SOON). (INCIDENTALLY, THE 4 PIN MODELS OF RANGER CB'S ARE STANDARD UNIDEN/COBRA WIRED SO YOU CAN JUST USE OUR STANDARD UNIDEN 4 PIN EC-990 ALONG WITH THE STANDARD RANGER 4 PIN MIC!)

HOPEFULLY THIS HAS EXPLAINED THE SITUATION REGARDING USING AN EC-990 WITH A 6 PIN WIRED CB RADIO, BUT IN ALL HONESTY YOU ARE PROBABLY BETTER OFF FOLLOWING OUR GUARANTEED COMPATIBILITY RECOMMENDATIONS ABOVE THAN MESS AROUND REWIRING THEM YOURSELF ETC!
